ROCKFORD – Virginia Flodin Dace, 88, of Rockford, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at St. Anthony Medical Center. |
She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Chicago, daughter of Andrew and Grace Rosenbaum Flodin.
She graduated from National College of Education and taught school for 35 years.
She married Marion R. Dace in Chicago, on Oct. 21, 1943. He died on Jan. 29, 1992.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford, Rockford Woman's Club, Orput Fellowship of the Mendelssohn Club and the Retired Teachers Association.
She was involved as a volunteer at Midway Village Museum and as a reader volunteer for District 205 schools.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Dale) O'Dea-Bartholomew of Marengo; her sons, Andrew F. (Julie) Dace of Freeport and David A. (Patricia) Dace of Roscoe; her seven wonderful grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Erik, Nick and Kristen Dace, Melinda Pettinga, Ben (Stacy) O'Dea, Kelly (Robert) O'Dea-Clow and Jonathan (Nicole) O'Dea; her great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Kendall and Molly O'Dea; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Warren Flodin; and her parents.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road, Rockford. The Rev. Jane Eesley will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in Oak Hill Cemetery in Blue Island.
Memorials may be given in care of the family for benefit of the Fisher House or Midway Village Museum.
