WOODSTOCK – Gene J. Coughlin, formerly of Woodstock, died Thursday, June 7, 2012.
He was born April 2, 1922, in Chicago to Eugenia (nee DeStores) and Patrick Coughlin. He married Mary Louise Sweeney on Feb. 11, 1950.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Woodstock in 1968, where he operated a successful business with his wife.
He was a staunch supporter of the anti-abortion movement and was formerly active in politics as Republican Party precinct captain. He volunteered at the crisis pregnancy center. He greatly enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; daughters, Deborah (Jim) Morrin, Kathleen (John) Wallor and Melissa (John) Pereira; grandchildren, Andrew, J.P. and Matthew Wallor, and Andrea, Ryan and Max Farnham; and sister, Eileen Berry.
The visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, until the Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St. (corner of Ela and Franklin streets), Barrington.
Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Masses and donation to Right to Life. Arrangements by Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Lake Zurich.
