HUNTLEY – Holder D. "H.D." Taylor Jr., 82, of Huntley, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Springs of Crystal Lake.
He was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Wynne, Ark., the son of Holder and Tennie (Neal) Taylor. He was a World War II Army Veteran. H.D. married Dorothy (nee Witt) Goers in 1974, and they resided in Huntley for many years. They loved spending their winters in Lake Wales, Fla.
H.D. was a retired truck driver for R.L. Nehls Transfer of East Dundee.
He also was the proud owner of Taylor Stump and Tree Removal of Huntley. He was a member of the Huntley American Legion in Huntley and loved to spend the day fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy C. Taylor; his children, Julie (Ova) Godsey of Benton, Ky., Rick (Diane) Taylor of Algonquin and Bob Taylor of Phoenix; his stepchildren, Wayne (Sue) Goers of Huntley, Kay Cook of Austin, Texas, LuAnn (Jack) Groh of Rockford, Dennis (Debbie) Goers of Marengo and Penny (Greg) Wilkerson of Huntley; 10 grandchildren and 13 stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest (Beryl) Taylor, Clarence (Lucreda) Taylor and Vernon Taylor, all of West Memphis, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers and sisters, Emile Shaver, Minnie Wilson, Alvin Taylor, Travis Taylor, Pearlie Allyn, Mildred Smithee, William Taylor and Lois Taylor.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, and will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles W. Kittel officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Huntley Cemetery.
