McHENRY – Roy A. Diedrich, 71, of McHenry, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock.
He was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Waukegan, to Arthur Peter and Lyda Elizabeth (Shober) Diedrich. On Jan. 19, 1963, he married Patricia A. Mays at St. Mary's Church in McHenry.
Raised and educated in McHenry, Roy graduated from McHenry High School with the Class of 1960.
After high school, he worked for George P. Freund Inc. before owning and operating Rudy's Drive Inn in McHenry from 1965 to 1975.
After selling the drive-in, he worked with Dick Garrelts Plumbing for more than five years, before owning and operating his plumbing business, Roy Diedrich Rodding, until 2011.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church in McHenry, where he served as an usher for more than 20 years.
He played for the Red Devils Drum and Bugle Corps for several years. An avid gardener, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and flowers.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Pat; two sons, Troy Diedrich and Randy (Shannon) Diedrich; a grandchild, Brynn Diedrich; a sister, Judy (the late Fritz) Mueller of McHenry; a sister-in-law, Liz Rang of Lake Zurich; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Diedrich.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary's Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry. Inurnment will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, McHenry.
