Katherine Dozier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 7 to Oct. 9, 2012.

Katherine "Kathy" Jean (nee LaRue) Dozier, 44, wife of Ron Dozier and mother of Mason LaRue Kamp, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, following a brave battle with melanoma cancer.
With the help of her husband and a dedicated staff, Kathy created "Chasin' Our Tails," a doggie day care in Cary.
Kathy was passionate about animals and sports – particularly baseball – and when not playing herself, she was a constant, outspoken presence on the sidelines of her son Mason's sporting events.
In June, Kathy insisted on being released from the hospital to accompany Mason's baseball team for a week of tournaments in Cooperstown, N.Y. During the competition, Mason hit a grand slam for his sick mother, a feat that made national news and instantly promoted Kathy to the position of "Proudest Mother in the World."
She is survived by her husband and son; her father and stepmother, Dick and Carol LaRue formerly of Elgin and currently of Sun City in Huntley; her twin sister, Karen A. Tellez and husband Arnulfo of Chicago; and her brothers, Michael J. La Rue of New York City and Ken L. LaRue and wife Carrie of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth "Betty" LaRue; brother, Rick LaRue; and sister, Sharen Thurow.
The memorial visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 201 S. Main St. (Route 31) in Algonquin.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mason LaRue Kamp's education fund by contacting any Chase Bank.

The greatest softball game I ever played was on a team with Kathy. We never gave up, and she never gave up fighting cancer......it won, but through that fight, she inspired many....thank you Kathy for that fight. I wish you peace my friend.....

I am so sorry to hear of Kathy's passing. I met her at her doggy day care in Cary a few years back and loved her immediately! While I haven't spoken or had updates about her in a few months, I often wondered how she was doing. I was shocked to learn of her passing today. My deepest condolences go out to Ron, Mason and her family.

I knew I liked her when I first met her on the job at Bresslers. She was fun, easy going, witty, and most of the time in a good mood. I loved how laid back she was and had such a strong outer exterior but knew inside she was a softie. There is no one else like her and I'm just at a loss at how to feel with her no longer walking this earth and being a part of our world. Her love and care for her family and animals was off the charts. She may be gone, but will never, ever be forgotten and far from my mind. My deepest condolences to her surviving family, and we'll do what we can to support them deal with the sadness her passing has left behind. Rest in eternal peace my friend...Judy Jacobs

Dear Tanya,
Kathy called to tell me about the meeting she had with you in the parking lot of Target. She said she saw you were busy and considered not saying, "Hello", but something made her get out of the car and go to you. You have to know what a big deal that was for her because at that time, driving alone was a huge effort. She was so happy to speak with you, share her story, and hear about your own struggles. You made a difference in her life with those few moments you shared. Thank you for supporting and loving my sister. Please introduce yourself to me if you are planning to attend her memorial. I want to hug you too.

My deepest condolences to Ron and Mason as well as to the rest of the family. Kathy was a warm and loving spirit. She and I met through a dog rescue group and she generously offered time at Chasin' Our Tails to help socialize the rescue pups. Most were very successful adoptions due in large part to their training by Kathy to "play nice".
Kathy also accompanied me when we had to euthanize one dog who was too unstable to place. She and I wept together. I am grateful for her warmth and kindness.
The last time I saw Kathy was in the parking lot at Target about a month ago. She told me of her prognosis and we both cried. Mason, she spoke of you, of her love for and pride in you. You and Ron and her family meant the world to her. God bless you all and hold you close.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy 3 years ago when we moved to IL. When looking for a house we saw the sign about daycare before we even bought our house. Such a delightful person greeted us that day that we never hesitated as to where our "Buddy" and "Maggie" would go for boarding. Kathy was the kindest, most caring person that I have met since living in IL. Even though she cared for my furry friends, I felt that I too knew her. I will truly miss her. My prayers and thoughts will be with her family and all who knew her.
