Katherine "Kathy" Jean (nee LaRue) Dozier, 44, wife of Ron Dozier and mother of Mason LaRue Kamp, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, following a brave battle with melanoma cancer.
With the help of her husband and a dedicated staff, Kathy created "Chasin' Our Tails," a doggie day care in Cary.
Kathy was passionate about animals and sports – particularly baseball – and when not playing herself, she was a constant, outspoken presence on the sidelines of her son Mason's sporting events.
In June, Kathy insisted on being released from the hospital to accompany Mason's baseball team for a week of tournaments in Cooperstown, N.Y. During the competition, Mason hit a grand slam for his sick mother, a feat that made national news and instantly promoted Kathy to the position of "Proudest Mother in the World."
She is survived by her husband and son; her father and stepmother, Dick and Carol LaRue formerly of Elgin and currently of Sun City in Huntley; her twin sister, Karen A. Tellez and husband Arnulfo of Chicago; and her brothers, Michael J. La Rue of New York City and Ken L. LaRue and wife Carrie of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth "Betty" LaRue; brother, Rick LaRue; and sister, Sharen Thurow.
The memorial visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 201 S. Main St. (Route 31) in Algonquin.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mason LaRue Kamp's education fund by contacting any Chase Bank.
