Josephine E. (Maupin) Holt Obituary
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Josephine E. (Maupin) Holt, 82, formerly of Greeneville, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Provena-St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was a former director of public relations for St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago.
In 1962, after accepting the Lord as her Savior and giving her life to serving Him, she joined the Meadows Baptist Church. She served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, church librarian, and a leader in the AWANA Club for Christian youth. During the '60s, Billy Graham had two crusades in the Chicago suburbs, and she served as a counselor at these crusades.
In 1963, she began promoting well-known gospel music groups such as the Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, the Oak Ridge Boys, the LeFevres and many more. She was a member of the Gospel Music Association and served as a judge at its annual talent competition in Nashville, Tenn., at the National Gospel Music Convention for 12 years. She was editor-publisher of "Gospel Music Today," a monthly gospel music news publication.
After a stroke in 1994, she moved back to Greene County in her home state of Tennessee. She joined the NewComers Club and served as its historian. She was also an active member of the Over 55 Fellowship Club, the Roby Senior Center, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP), and the Greeneville FCE (family-community-education) Club. She joined the Foster Grandparents program in 1998 as a Grandparent at Mosheim Elementary School.
Survivors include her daughter and fiance, Pamela Maupin and Scott Kunzen of Crystal Lake; granddaughter, Bree Elizabeth Batchen of Chicago; sister, Frances Lambert and husband, Richie, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three nieces; one nephew; and many cousins.
She was the daughter of the late Sam and Laura Holt, and was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Holt; and a son, Jerry Lee Maupin.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home in Greeneville. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Sam Puckett officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Vale Cemetery.
Her pallbearers will be family and friends.
