McHENRY – Mary Jane Peters, 74, of McHenry, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.|
She was born Dec. 12, 1938, in Waukegan, to Richard A. and Marie (Bancroft) Peters.
Marie was raised in North Chicago and attended North Chicago and Waukegan schools.
She held degrees from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and Rosary College in River Forest. She was the librarian at Warren Township High School in Gurnee and from 1968 until her retirement in 1994 at McHenry West High School.
After her retirement, she worked for a time at the Nunda Township Library.
Mary Jane was woman of wide-ranging interests and skills. She was adept at quilting, sewing, knitting, crewel embroidery, calligraphy, ceramics and jewelry making. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks. She enjoyed reading, listening to the radio, traveling and keeping in touch with old friends.
Survivors include her sister, Paula (Dan) Erwin; and nephew, Anthony F. Erwin, both of Champaign; cousins, Sharon Bancroft Snell, John Tamarri, Denis Bancroft, Shirley Poppi and William Peters; and a host of friends, including Michael (Michelle) Krumsee, Darlene Besch and Linda (Roger) Freund.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home.
Those who desire may meet at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago for a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. Kindly meet at the office.
