gunnar E. sacson Born: February 17, 1918; Chicago, IL Died: January 25, 2014; North Chicago, IL Gunnar E. Sacson, 95, of Wonder Lake died January 25, 2014 at Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago. Gunnar was born February 17, 1918 in Chicago, the son of Gunnar and Amada (Johnson) Sacson. Gunnar was a Sergeant in the US Army and a Veteran serving in World War II with the 200th Coast Artillery. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. As a P.O.W., he was held captive by the Japanese until the liberation of the Philippines. Gunnar was interviewed by various newspapers and quoted in the Congressional Records regarding his military service and VA treatment after the war. Following the war, he married Thelma Hodges on Nov 2, 1945 in Chicago. He was a loving husband and devoted family man. He was a photoengraver by trade, and worked at Chicago Roto Print, while living in Lake Bluff. After retiring he moved to Wonder Lake. He enjoyed gardening and traveling, and was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church. Mr. Sacson is survived by his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Bob Lowrimore of Wonder Lake. Gunnar was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his son William, and his parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday February 17, 2014 with calling hours one hour prior to the 1 PM service at Nativity Lutheran Church 3506 Wonder Lake Rd. Wonder Lake, Il.
