LORRAINE M. MONAHAN Born: September 26, 1919; in Detroit, Mich. Died: February 26, 2014; in Woodstock Lorraine M. Monahan, age 94, of McHenry, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock. She was born September 26, 1919 in Detroit, MI, to Russel and Mildred (Boline) Picard. She married Warren J. Monahan on September 16, 1939. Lorraine was a resident of McHenry for over 50 years. She was a longtime member of Wonder Lake Bible Church, where she also taught Sunday School and was active with Vacation Bible School. She participated in the Christian Womens Club, as well as Bible Study fellowship. Over the years, Lorraine had been hostess at the McHenry Country Club, worked for Welcome Wagon in McHenry and at Spurgeon 's department store, and was a teacher 's assistant at Valley View School. She enjoyed sewing and baking, especially cookies. Survivors include four children, Sandra L. (George) Swanson of Woodstock, Kathleen (Walt) Sanford-Witchie of Pleasant Hill, IA, Lynne Cassell of Wheaton, and Paul (Laura) Monahan of Johnsburg; 13 grandchildren, Halli (Kent Ryan) Sanford-Ryan of Wilton, IA, Sandra (Lonnie Long) Sanford-Long of Clive, IA, Joseph (Suki) Sanford of Urbandale, IA, Peter (Heather) Swanson of South Bend, IN, Jill (Tim) Duvall of Naperville, Luke (Katy) Swanson of Aurora, Karin (Matt) Bronleewe of Nashville, TN, Brooke Cassell of Seattle, WA, Michael Cassell of Wheaton, Aaron Cassell of Elgin, Daniel Cassell of Oregon, Melissa (Luke Bruesch) Monahan-Bruesch of Sedona, AZ, and Rebecca Monahan of Johnsburg; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Monahan, on October 27, 2013. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Wonder Lake Bible Church, 7501 Howe Road, Wonder Lake, IL 60097, with the Rev. Daniel Cox officiating. Her family suggests memorials be made to the Wonder Lake Bible Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Justen Funeral Home & Crematory.
