David Owen Lee Born: April 22, 1940; in Woodstock Died: April 2, 2014; in Plymouth, IN David O. Lee, 73, of Plymouth, IN died on Tuesday April 2, 2014. David was born on April 22, 1940, in Woodstock, Illinois, to the late Ole and Amy (Richardson) Lee. After graduating from High School in Woodstock, Illinois and Southern Illinois University, David decided to join the army. His sister, Command Sergeant Major Mary A. Lee, who was on recruiting duty in Providence, Rhode Island wanted to be his recruiter and drove to Woodstock and returned to Providence with David. He chose to enlist with a guarantee to have advance training in Image Interpretation, the same element in the Army that identified the Russian Missiles in Cuba. He was very proud that he had the same military occupation specialty as they did and he was a model soldier. During his enlistment he had the opportunity to visit many countries including Norway where his father Ole Lee was born. After completing his 3 year enlistment he returned to civilian life. In July 1974 he married Teri (Throneberry) Lee and had nine children who survive: Daniel (Zulema) Lee of Mishawaka, IN, Melissa Craig-Lee of Culver, Karen Lee of Culver, Anna (Gabriel) Kehoe of South Bend, IN, Greg (Shea) Lee of Plymouth, IN, Mary (Jeffery) Gates of South Bend, IN, Lily Lee of Culver, Joseph Lee of Mishawaka, IN, and Samantha Lee of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Lee of Jacksonville, AL, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents Ole and Amy (Richardson) Lee, His brothers Robert and Delbert Lee, and a nephew Jeffery Lee. David retired as a caseworker from the State of Illinois and moved to Culver to be close to his children and grandchildren. David was a member of Saint Mary of the Lake in Culver, Indiana. He enjoyed volunteering his time at Culver Elementary School with Teri helping the children to learn to read. He was a member of the Tea Party and was the Alternative Communications Coordinator. He was also a member of Opus Dei. Friends may join David's family in celebrating his life at Saint Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, Culver on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 4:00-6:00 pm EST. Father Jeffery Largent will officiate a Mass on Monday, April 7, 2014, at 11:00 am EST with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place after Mass at Burr Oak Cemetery Culver, IN. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in David's memory. Condolences may be sent via the obituary page at www.odomfuneralhome.com.
