CRYSTAL LAKE - Graham B. Kleckner, age 84, of Crystal Lake, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Centegra Woodstock Hospital. He was born March 28, 1930, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, the son of Frank and Musetta (Graham) Kleckner. On September 1, 1950, he married Patricia A. Renning in Fairbanks, Alaska. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2011. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1959 graduate of the University of Minnesota at Duluth, with a degree in communications. In the '50s he supported his family and put himself through college working as a deejay at several radio stations, including KDAL in Duluth. For 27 years he was a sales representative for Hamilton Industries in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, serving throughout the south. He later worked for PlanHold, based in Irvine, California, as Eastern Regional Manager. Graham was a huge music fan, and he knew that by playing many different genres of music for his children he was doing them a favor, not tormenting them (as they would have attested). Today they all thank him for the music education and exposure he provided. He also was a stickler for correct grammar, another thing his children hated at the time, but for which they now thank him. Despite his heavy travel schedule during his working years, Graham strongly supported his children's extracurricular activities, attending as many plays, programs and sporting events as possible.
He often said he wanted his gravestone to read:
"Once I wasn't
Then I was
Now I ain't again"
He had his gravestone made in advance, so we're putting it in his obit instead.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Doralyn David) Kleckner of Bullhead City, Ariz.; Terena Kleckner (Sam Tobias) of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Christopher Kleckner of Seattle; Mary (Bob) O'Dell of Richardson, Texas; Martha Hauerwas of Crystal Lake; Joe (Nancy) Kleckner of Flower Mound, Texas; and Sarah (Matt) Carzoli of Crystal Lake; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Becker, Ben and Emma Tobias, Hannah and Lauren Kleckner, and Mia, Charlie and Juliana Carzoli; his sister, Kay Kleckner; and many cousins and other relatives whose exact relation we don't have time to determine but whose bloodline we can confirm.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Kathrin "Kelli" Widener and Jennifer Kay Kleckner; and a son-in-law, Mark Widener.
The visitation will be held at Skaja Bachmann Funeral Home, 7715 W. Route 14, Crystal Lake on Monday from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM, funeral Monday 11:30 AM to St. Thomas the Apostle for 12:00 Noon mass. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Two Rivers, WI
