Joyce Ingwalson Obituary

HUNTLEY – Joyce Andrée Ingwalson, 79, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, her husband's birthday, at her Huntley home in her family's arms after a grace-filled, courageous dance with cancer.

Born Sept. 7, 1930, in East St. Louis, she lived her faith-filled life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After graduating from Northland College in Ashland, Wis., she was a high school teacher. She then became the Service Club director in Camp Wolters, Texas, where she met her husband of 51 years.

While keeping their home and raising their 5 children, she was an active crafter, participating in numerous juried art and craft fairs for almost 20 years. Additionally, she was an avid reader, follower of current affairs, passionate card and game player, dedicated friend, and neighborly helping hand to many.

She and her husband thoroughly enjoyed their numerous far-flung travels and homes, eventually retiring to Florida and Northern Wisconsin.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Kenneth James Ingwalson; her children, René Lynn (Waino) Ingwalson, Michelle Chéri (Brian) Lowack, Monique Gabrielle (Michael) Mahon, Dana Scott (Michele) Ingwalson and Nicolle Desirée (Robert) Mercer; her grandchildren, Juline, Clayton, Caelin, Brian, Lyndsay, Emily, Samantha, Nicholas, Kevin, Alexandra, Jackson and Allison; her great-granddaughter, Breann; and a large extended family of friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcella Louise and Clayton Kirk Slack Sr.; her only brother, Clayton Kirk Slack Jr.; her niece, Kim Marie Slack; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The visitation and memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 6, at First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Arn Schaper officiating. The visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church; the memorial service will be at noon, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be in Hayward, Wis., later this summer.

She carried these words with her: "In her memory, please flower the lonely, feed the hungry, love the unable, and help hold the helpless." Honoring this request and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joyce Andrée Ingwalson Kindness Fund. The funds will be used for various charities, scholarships or benevolent needs.

All of my love and prayers surround you in this time of mourning.
Please know that Mrs. Ingwalson will be truly missed but still her memory will live on with me and my family.
It was her love of the great outdoors that led me to becoming a pinecone collector, bird watcher, and nature "nut".
I know that she is still watching over us as she always did when we were growing up. It was her wisdom that taught me that it was okay to forgive myself. It was her love that helped me through some very trying times in my life, and I was truly blessed to have known her. I will miss her and her sense of humor. I know I will see her again some day and I will cherish every memory I have until then (yes even when she took all my money playing HOG). I am a better person because of her love...thank you for sharing with me.
