Theodore "Ted" Spengel

Obituary Condolences

McHENRY – Theodore "Ted" Spengel, 84, longtime resident of McHenry and Johnsburg, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at home.
He was born April 5, 1927, in Chicago, to Walter and MaryAnn (Petlock) Spengel.
He was an Army Air Force corporal during World War II. He was the founder and owner of Ted's Wholesale Meats in Calumet Park and later Spengel Meat Packing in McHenry and Johnsburg.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Fox River Post No. 4600 in McHenry, and former school board member of St. John's Grade School and Marian Central.
He was a member of McHenry Country Club from 1964-2011 and club president from 1974-77 and served on its board for 17 years.
He was an avid golfer. Dedication to and support of McHenry Country Club was a priority. Family was the world to him. He loved it the most when the whole family was together, especially on Christmas Eve.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia (Nespeca) Spengel; his dear children, Gary (Lydia) Spengel, Pam (Marty) Patterson, Kim (Mike) Johnson, Joy (Steve) Rossman, Scott (Diane) Spengel and Keith (Trish) Spengel; his daughter-in-law, Linda "Missy" Spengel; and his dear grandchildren, Valya, Tony, Curtis, Brian, Michael, Sarah, Andrew, Nicholas, Emilie, Lee (Amanda), Luke, William, Eric, Stephanie, Ben and Dane. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his son, Craig; his parents, Walter and MaryAnn; and his siblings, Vincent Spengel, John Spengel, Katherine Michalski, Walter Spengel and Joseph Spengel.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Justen Funeral Home, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. Everyone is invited to go directly to the 11 a.m. Mass celebration Thursday, May 26, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
