PLANO, Texas – Elsa Balk Klein, 82, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of Fox River Grove, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at her home.|
She was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Louis Balk and Astrid Balk Miller.
Elsa was a 1948 graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School. She was an active member the Class of 1948 reunion committee and looked forward to the planning and reminiscing with her high school friends.
Elsa was foremost a homemaker, but she was also manager of the family business, Klein's Tastee Treets, in Fox River Grove, for 20 years. She made sure her customers enjoyed the best food possible and her employees had a fun and enjoyable place to work.
Elsa enjoyed league bowling at King Pin Lanes, where Elsa and Ted first met. She also played golf at Cary Country Club in the Thursday Morning Women's League for many years. She loved beautiful clothes and worked a number of years at the Bob and Betty Shop in Barrington and Lake Zurich.
She enjoyed reading and listening to her favorite artists, Celine Dion and Johnny Mathis. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will fondly be remembered for her wit and humor.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore J. Klein, whom she married Aug. 31, 1957, in Crystal Lake; her children, Susan (Thomas) Gallagher, Timothy (Suzanne) Klein and Phillip (Candace) Klein; her grandchildren, Taryn and Tommy Gallagher, Alex, Stephen and Joey Klein, and Cameron, Christian and Kirsten Klein; her sister, Grete McKenna; and many nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Balk Miller; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph E. McKenna.
Because of Elsa's fondness for clothes, the family asks you to wear the brightest and most colorful clothes as we celebrate her life.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Road, Cary. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 Lincoln Ave., Barrington.
