JOHNSBURG – William M. "Pops" "Grandpa Willie" O'Brien, 71, of Johnsburg, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his home.|
He was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Chicago, to Ward and Elizabeth (Kerr) O'Brien. On Jan. 31, 1987, he married Mary Fredrick in Woodstock.
William worked for Aircon Refrigeration and Heating for 30 years. He worked for 10 years in maintenance at Half Time Bar and Grill. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 73 for more than 43 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was a jack of all trades, but most of all he enjoyed his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and their sports as he was their No. 1 fan. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Sherri (Mike) Hahndorf of McHenry and Bill (Sue) O'Brien of Crystal Lake; his son-in-law, Rob Pait of McHenry; his grandchildren, Michael and Melanie Hahndorf, and Kaleigh, Madalyne, Jake and Cameron Pait; his brothers and sisters, Robert (the late Jodi) O'Brien, Nancy (Dave) Freund, Bonnie (the late Phil) Siudak, Betty (Pete) Weber, Joan (the late John) Tonyan, Richard (Penny) O'Brien, Michael (Laura) O'Brien, Kathy (Steve) Lundy and Sue Fitzel; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo O'Brien; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Christine "Tina" Pait; a sister, Patricia (the late Rich) Hawkins; and a brother, James O'Brien.
The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Mass celebration Tuesday, June 11, at the Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 Bull Valley Road, McHenry.
Interment will be private.
