CARY – Joseph Norbert Iwan, 91, of Cary, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.|
He was born June 4, 1922, in Gary, Ind., to Jozef and Mary (Mysogland) Iwan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Schreck) Iwan; his nieces and nephews, Tim (Keely) Iwan, Dave (Diane) Struebig, Dan (Nancy) Biggs, Richard (Carol) Biggs, Jan (Gary) Hunt, Cindi Brookshire, Christian (Kathy) Schreck, Deb (Vic) Damen and Patti Seipp; and his grandniece, Autumn Schreck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Ted; and his sisters, Evelyn, Cele and Theresa.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a gunner's mate on the USS Indianapolis and the USS White Plains, attended the yearly reunions of the USS White Plains and was a member of the American Legion.
He enjoyed snow and waterskiing, golfing, snowmobiling, tennis and riding his personal watercraft and boat on the Fox River by his home. He was a member of the Riverbend Benders Snowmobile Club of Cary. He previously was a roller skate dance judge.
At his request, there will be no viewing or services.
