MARIAN L. ENGSTROM Born: October 30, 1923; Rapid City, SD Died: January 4, 2014; Woodstock Marian L. Engstrom (nee Holsten), 90, of Woodstock, died peacefully at home on January 4, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born October 30, 1923 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She married Howard J. Engstrom on November 15, 1945 in Rapid City. He will dearly miss his wife of 68 years. Over the years, Marian and Howard traveled to 50 states and 13 countries. Besides traveling, Marian enjoyed reading, writing poetry, studying genealogy, taking nature walks, gardening, interior decorating, picking berries and sitting in the sun. She was an active member in her community - being a hospice volunteer, putting on charity vintage fashion shows, assisting at the Woodstock Opera House and helping out at PADS homeless shelter. Her entrepreneurial spirit sparked two catering businesses and an antique shop. A life-long learner, she took classes at McHenry Community College in her senior years. Active in the Evangelical Free Church all her life, Marian taught Sunday school and led women 's Bible study groups. Her caring heart, passion for social justice and desire to follow Christ 's teachings led her to reach out to people in need. Survived by: husband, Howard; daughters Janice (Jonathan) Cornforth of Kirkland WA and Sherryl (Ken) Somerville of Lake Geneva WI; daughter-in-law Alma Huete of Crystal Lake IL; brother Donald Holsten; sisters Helen Nordenson and Doris Hovland and five grandchildren: Lauren, Anthony, Aaron, Luke and Tabitha; predeceased by son, Mark. Funeral service at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, 575 E. Crystal Lake Avenue. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. A celebration of her life luncheon will follow at the church. Private burial services will be at Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake (for world missions) or to Journey Care Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Rd, Barrington, IL 60010.
