Robert J. Van Acker

Born: April 3, 1932; in St. Charles, IL

Died: Dec. 3, 2014; in Union, IL

Robert Joseph Van Acker, age 82, of Union, passed away comfortably in his home on December 3, 2014.

He was born on April 3, 1932, in St. Charles, the son of Louis and Henrietta (Wagemann) Van Acker. The Van Ackers relocated to Huntley in 1934, where Robert went to the Country School on Big Timber Road. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1950. Robert married the love of his life, Dora Mae Christensen, on April 18, 1953. Robert farmed all of his life for family and friends, and later began his own business of hauling livestock. His hobbies included playing pinochle, and he loved watching old Western movies.

Robert lived a full life that included the love for his family, friends and God.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora Van Acker; children, Debra (Ricky) Diedrick, Cynthia (Ron) Master, Jeffrey (Laura) Van Acker, Lynn Van Acker (John Wiecek); 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers and sisters, Elaine Richardson, James Van Acker, Barbara (Wayne) Otte, Henry (Shirley) Van Acker, Shirley (Don) Radloff; sisters in law, Pat(McManaman) Van Acker, and Pat (Otte) Van Acker.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and Lawrence VanAcker; and adopted son, LeRoy Bosma.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd., Huntley. Visitation will be prior to the mass from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.
