DR. JAMES D. BRODERSEN MUNSTER, IN
Dr. James D. Brodersen, of Munster, IN, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at the age of 82. He was born in Spokane, WA in 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oswald and Dorothy Brodersen; and sisters, Dorothy and Mary Margaret. Brother, William survives. Survivors include, his wife Barbara, of 55 years; his three children: John (Brooke) Brodersen, of Milwaukee, WI, Tim (Jill) Brodersen, of Milwaukee, WI and Ann (Tim) Angst of Pleasanton, CA; ten grandchildren: Sophia, James and Elena Angst, Bella, Alex, Jack and Lucas Brodersen, Grace, Lila and Izzy Brodersen. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Visitation will be on Saturday, at the funeral, from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. service. Jim graduated from Gonzaga High School and received his premedical degree at the University of Washington in Seattle. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, followed by an internship and a residency in eye surgery at Cook County Hospital. Before Jim went into private practice, he was proudly a Captain in the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. He was a member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Academy of Cataract Surgery, and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at St. Margaret Hospital for many years before he built a surgery center attached to his office. Jim had a very full and active life. Besides his successful practice, he was respected for his business expertise and very congenial personality. He and Barb travelled to over 60 countries. Jim had lifelong friends with whom he hunted and fished and he particularly loved fly fishing in rivers and streams of Alaska. He loved coaching while his sons were in Little League. Jim enjoyed the camaraderie of friends who played golf and tennis in Munster and Sanibel, FL, along with the frequent poker games. He loved all sports, particularly basketball, and was very knowledgeable about most college and professional sports. His grandchildren were very dear to him. They loved his warmth and sense of humor, and he so loved being with them. Jim had three degrees: BA, BS and MD, but most of his friends would agree, that his BS is what everyone will most remember about him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim's name to the charity of your choice. www.kishfuneralhome.net

I will never forget his compassion as a doctor nor the great skills he possessed as the number one eye surgeon of the early cataract IOL era.
There are no words to express my level of respect or appreciation for him as
a very unique and wonderful man. It was a blessing to have known him; and my deceased dad had nothing but good things to say about him and patient doctor relationship. To the Brodersen family, yes he is missed by many.

Sorry my condolences are so late in coming. Dr. Brodersen performed four surgeries on my right eye after a childhood injury. Some other surgeon may have just removed that eye, but Dr Brodersen was special. I was six years old in 1968 and he would tell me he had a son my age. He would make me laugh at my appointments. He would make me look to the side at his ear and he would say, "Do you see Bozo in that ear?" I would crack up every time. I loved Dr. Brodersen.

To the Brodersen Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to John and the Brodersen Family. I also worked with Dr.Brodersen in SMH surgery as well as being his patient. He was loved and highly respected. As an eye surgeon NONE could compare to his skills, talent and compassion for his work and his patients. Highly respected and a humble man. Our earthly loss is heavens gain.
Family God Bless you.

Back in the 80's, Dr. Jim did surgery on my mom and while going under from the anesthesia, he sang to her "Maria" from West Side Story. She loved it.
R.I.P. Doc.. My sympathies to the Brodersen family.
