JOSEPH L. RUPP CALUMET CITY, IL
Joseph L. Rupp, 89, of Calumet City passed on with peace at home on July 30, 2013. Joe was the younger brother of the late Matt Rupp, Ann and Frank Gullicks, Eleanor and Ziggy Grenda, Helen and Mickey Surdyk, and Bernice Rupp. Uncle Joe had great pride in his nephews and nieces: Kathy (Surdyk) and Dick Wells, Shirley (Surdyk) and Wayne Stone, Tom and Susan Surdyk, Jim and Mary Ellen Gullicks, Ron and Ewa Grenda, Bob and Karen Grenda, Terry (Grenda) and Art Winterbauer, and the late Ruth Ann (Gullicks) and Don O'Keefe. A 1940 graduate of Thornton Fractional High School, Joe followed the Army's call of duty to North Africa, Italy, and France. Hitler's greatest regret was having Joe make it back to Calumet City, where he became a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. Joe worked at the Standard Oil Refinery, Smith Paint Store, and Carson's before retiring from many years of delivering mail in Calumet City. Uncle Joe's greatest passion was TF North football and basketball. He had once been Vice-President of the TF North Booster Club, and had attended more games than anyone over the last 70 years. Joe wanted to send his love to Vito, John, Jerry, and everyone at Tom's. A wake will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hennessey-Nowak Funeral Home in Calumet City with services at St. Andrew's Church on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 12:00 noon. At rest, Holy Cross Cemetery in Joe's beloved Calumet City.

Sleep softly, Uncle Joe, rest in peace. This is not an ending, but this is actually the beginning of your new life. This is not death, but this is your birth into eternity. You will always be in our thoughts and hearts and we will always long for the time that we would meet again.

Uncle Joe, I looked up at the sky tonight and noticed a new twinkling star. I know now that you didn't leave us. You just moved to a new home where you can watch over us a little better. You will be missed though, but i know i can look up and see you shining down on us all. I will never forget you.
