Matusik, Dorothy Leona "Penny"
DOROTHY LEONA MATUSIK January 28, 1928 April 11, 2015 Dorothy Leona Matusik, known as "Penny," she was a daughter, granddaughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, auntie, cousin, and friend. A woman of generosity and devotion, she enjoyed spending time with others. Her life was a life illuminated in the lives of others, which is the best life led. She embodied the role of caretaker, of mother. Dorothy and her mother (Irene Paszkiewicz) shared a maternal bond; they lived together and cared for each other from Dorothy's birth to Irene's death. Walter M. Matusik and Penny made a life together for over 48 years. Wally and Penny are the foundation for all us gathering together, what we know of love and strength comes from them. Penny created a home, raising three children, as well as, helping raise three of her grandchildren. She helped relatives who needed someone to talk to or a helping hand. She was good person. She was there The one pushing the stroller around the block to help you fall asleep, the one waiting in the car after school, and the one making dinner, reheating dinner. She took care of us. Her dreams were for our dreams, so that we might be of use to this world. She lives on through her children: Denise Marthakis, Mark and Gail Matusik, and Sharon and Doug Purdy; her grandchildren: Michele and Chuck Sawyer, Stefania and Paul Marthakis Bosse, Samuel Marthakis, and Abigail Matusik; and her great grandchildren: Charlie, Claire, Catherine, Christina, and Caroline Sawyer. "Grandmother and Great Grandmother gather corners of a sheet, turning the material to the left. The grandmothers gather corner after corner until the grandmothers walk towards each other. Until the grandmothers are close to each other and there are no more folds to be made. A space when time was taller. When light was the color rose." In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area. Thank you, dear Penny, mother to us all.
