Rico Jr., Joseph Mario  
JOSEPH MARIO RICO JR. MOUNTAIN HOUSE, CA Joseph Mario Rico, Jr., age 85, of Mountain House, CA, formerly of East Chicago, IN and Santa Maria, CA, passed away June 25, 2015. He was born August 24, 1929 to Joseph Mario Rico Sr. and Hermila Cruz. On June 10, 1949, he married Marie Vega Rico, who survives. Also surviving are his children: Matias, Jacqueline, Jeffrey, Joseph III and Robin Rico; siblings: Laura and Peter Rico; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Ernie, Xavier and Jael. Mr. Rico graduated from Washington H.S., East Chicago IN and Cal-Poly, San Luis Obispo with a B.A. in Business Administration, he served in the Army from 1947 to 1949, and retired from Lockheed, Martin. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and golf. Joseph will always be remembered by his wonderful examples of kindness and love to so many. Those examples as a man, husband, father, son and friend will live on through many minds and hearts forever. Private services will be held in Mountain House, CA.

Rivera, Helen  
HELEN RIVERA HIGHLAND, IN Helen Rivera, age 94, of Highland, IN formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away June 28, 2015. She is survived by three children: John (Marianne) Tyburski, Sharon (Ted) Czalbowski, Nancy Wrzalinski; seven grandchildren: Dennis, Michael, Aaron, Ryan, Brandon, Jeremiah, Jacob; three great-grandchildren: Dominic, Everett, Zachary. Preceded in death by son, Richard Tyburski. Family funeral services were held on Wednesday July 1, 2015; with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rogowski, Lila E. - Kouts  
LILA E. ROGOWSKI KOUTS, IN Lila E. Rogowski, 89 of Kouts passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015. She was born January 4, 1926 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late Edward and Martha (Meyer) Steffen. In 1933, her family moved from Oak Lawn, IL to Kouts where Lila graduated from Kouts High School in 1944. She then worked as a secretary to the Dean of Students, Rev. Luther Koepke at Valparaiso University for 17 years. For nearly 50 years, she and her husband, John, owned and operated Kouts Building Supply. Many customers will remember the peanut barrel and their cat, Roscoe. Lila enjoyed genealogy, collecting historical photos of the area, and collecting bears, dolls, baskets, and dishes. She and her husband also collected pressing irons and trivets. Lila also enjoyed scrapbooking and flower gardening. She was a member of the Midwest Sadiron Collectors Club, Valparaiso Dolls and Friends, ReVU, and the American Legion Auxiliary #301. She taught Sunday School for many years and served as a historian for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kouts. On November 28, 1959 Lila married, John B. Rogowski who preceded her in death on July 28, 2007. She is survived by her caregivers: Gail and Jim Knopf; nieces and nephews: Susan (Don) Garrett, Vernon Weinkauf, Thomas (Gaye) Rogowski, John (Becky) Weinkauf, Joseph (Hazel) Rogowski, and Julie (Greg) Powell; and seven godchildren: Virginia Jahnz Reed, Lila Rommelmann Shafer, Matthew Powell, Emily Rogowski, and Thomas, Timothy, and Tony Howard. She was also preceded in death by her nephews: Michael and James Weinkauf. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church 507 S. Rose St., Kouts with burial to follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Kouts. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM at Kosanke Funeral Home 105 E. Indiana Ave., Kouts. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Kouts Volunteer Fire Department. kosankefuneralhome.com
