Betty Rose (Jaeger) Winkler

BETTY ROSE WINKLER FORMERLY OF CROWN POINT, IN Betty Rose (Jaeger) Winkler formerly of Crown Point, IN passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at her home in Orange County, CA. She was born in Hammond, IN to Ignatius "Ned" Jaeger 1909-1972 and Rose (Kucia) 1911-1982; and baptized Elizabeth Rose at St. Columba in Hegewisch, IL. The family moved to rural Crown Point, IN in the fall of 1940. Betty attended St. Mary grade school, Crown Point High School, graduating in 1951 and Indiana University Bloomington campus through 1953. During her junior year, she was training in the radio and television department. Betty's flair for music and drama captured her many singing engagements. Her guest appearances with varied bands included appearing at the Midway Ballroom in Cedar Lake, IN during her summer breaks; the Ralph Marterie's band at the Indiana Roof, Indianapolis IN; and the Jimmy Ille's band at the Preview Lounge in Chicago. Betty worked at varied travel agencies in the Midwest. She married Winkler in 1957 later divorcing; to this union one daughter, Dallace was born in Illinois. In January 1967, Betty was awarded the Most Outstanding Young Democratic Woman in Illinois. In Orange County, CA since about 1968, Betty continued her work within the travel business as well as continuing her education and to her joy completed the Arts Administration course with the University of California. Betty loved the Arts. She was a subscriber and docent to the Opera; and member and supernumario (extra) in the Opera performance of Turondot. Betty loved her faith, pouring herself into many church related projects at her parish in Newport Beach CA. She leaves to mourn her loss: daughter, Dallace Ziegler; granddaughters: Ariel and Verina; cousins from Indiana, North Dakota; as well as many other states. She will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet Street, Crown Point, IN where family will receive friends from 9:00 AM Monday until time of service. Rev. Father Pat J. Kalich officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's memory may be made to Our Lady Queen of Angels Building Fund, Newport Beach, CA and/or St Mary's Youth Group Crown Point , IN.
