Billy D. Whisler

BILLY D. WHISLER ENGLEWOOD, FL
Billy D. Whisler, 86, of Englewood, FL died Easter Sunday Morning at 10:10 a.m., March 31, 2013 at his Sarasota County residence. He was born on March 15, 1927 in Unionville, IA to Carl and Mable (Hunt) Whisler. Billy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the first police officer hired for Cedar Lake Police Department when the city incorporated. Billy retired as a Sergeant in 1972. He was a member of the Cedar Lake Baptist Church, life member and Past Commander of the American Legion in Cedar Lake, a member of the Cedar Lake Fire Department, and an active participant of Cedar Lake Little League and Babe Ruth as a manager and coach. In the 1950's and 60's he worked for Sheehy Well and Pump. He and his wife, moved to Englewood, FL in 1972 to manage the Sea Horse Apartments which later became the Sea Oats Time Share. He then managed the Sarasota Gun Club - Trap and Skeet. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Helen; two sons: Billy Jr. and Phillip "Mickey"; 11 grandchildren; four brothers: Bob, Donald, Larry, and Jerry; one sister, Carol; and several nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. Visitation and services were held with interment in Sarasota National VA Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 in memory of Billy Whisler. Englewood Community Funeral Home was selected to handle arrangements.
