Chris C. Mitrakis

Chris C. Mitrakis, age 81, of Munster, passed away December 04, 2012. He was born on April 27, 1931 to the late Chris and Panagiota Mitrakis in Greece. Chris immigrated to the United States at the age of 19. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked to become a restauranteur of the Purple Steer Restaurants together with his late brother George Mitrakis. Chris was a loving husband, father, brother, papou, and friend to all. He is survived by his wife, Vasiliki Mitrakis; son, Andrew (Carol) Mitrakis; three daughters: Panagiota (Gus) Papadopoulos, Afrodite (Tom) Tsiakopoulos, and Helen Mitrakis; nine grandchildren: Christo, Theo, Kiki and Sofia Mitrakis, Panagioti and Christo Papadopoulos, and Alex, Kiki and Christo Tsiakopoulos; two sisters: Kalomira Konstantinopoulos and family and Christista Kalopisis and family; sister-in-law, Mina Mitrakis and family; sister and brother-in-law: Alex and Bibi Lambrakis and family. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Nick Konstantinopoulos. Visitation services will be held at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 DIRECTLY at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 528 77th Avenue, Schererville, IN at 10:00 AM with Fr. Constantine Aliferakis officiating. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. Chris was loving, generous selfless family man who took care of everyone. He was loved by all and his memories will be cherished forever.
