David U. Carmichael

David U. Carmichael, age 75, of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1939 in East Chicago, the son of the late Ivo Carmichael and Velma (Foreman) Carmichael- Bakken. David was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and had retired as a foreman at Bethlehem Steel in 2000. Following retirement he worked at Sears Hardware, Valparaiso for 10 years. David attended Chef School and earned a Master Gardner Certificate. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Valparaiso and the Eagles Lodge 2517 of Valparaiso. On June 19, 1963 in Portage, David married Bonita "Bonnie" L. Ecklar who survives along with their children: David "Marty" (Melissa) Carmichael, Kellie Carmichael-Pisarski, and Jim (Sheri) Carmichael all of Valparaiso; five grandchildren: Nathan, Molly, and Maggie Pisarski, Aaron Carmichael, and Heather Watson; great granddaughter, Audrina Runyan; four brothers: Ramon Carmichael and Paul, Cliff, and Bob (Roberta) Bakken; three sisters: Ruth (Ron) Lesinski, Nancy (Dennis) Martin, and Mary (Jerry) Crowe; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Jason. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with cremation to take place at Angelcrest Crematory.
