James W. Protho

JAMES W. PROTHO

James W. Protho was born on January 17, 1924 in LoveJoy, IL to Rev. Charles and Estella Prothro. He was a 1942 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Henrene Ward, and was happily married for 59 years. James was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of five medal awards. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was a former member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and Christ Baptist. James was currently a member of Unity Baptist Church and faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher. James leaves to cherish, Marva Wilburn, James (Helen) Protho, Larry Protho, Rev. Jerry (Gwen) Protho, Marlene (Wayne) Thomas, Sherry Protho, Michael Protho, Darnell Protho, Regina Protho Mitchell, Reginald Protho, Michelle (Darwin) Thurman; sister, Bessie Protho Watkins; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his son, Milton; his wife Henrene; parents: Rev. Charles and Estella Prothro; brothers: Edward, Orlando, Charles, William, and Robert; sister, Estella Watkins; and daughter-in-law, Mary Protho. James Protho was a business owner of Universal Sales, Compliance Officer at the GSD, and President of Black Minority Steering Committee. Visitation Friday, February 15, 2013 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.. Family hours from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 West 11th Ave., Gary, IN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Baptist Church, 4700 E. 7th Place. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park.
