MARY E. VanHORSSEN GRIFFITH, IN Mary E. VanHorssen, age 70, of Griffith passed away on Wednesday August 7, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, William “Bill”; children: Elene (Ray) Kuhns, Don (Carolyn) Muskin, Angie Muskin, George VanHorssen, Garret VanHorssen (fiancee Teresa Lopez), Joe (Jennifer) VanHorssen, and Pete VanHorssen; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers: Calvin (Alma) Penrod and Daniel (Jenny) Penrod. Preceded in death by her parents: Calvin and Julia Penrod; sisters: Josephine, Eva June, Verida, Delores, Regina, and Alice; and grandchildren: Nathan and Samantha. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Avenue in Griffith with Rev. Jose Burgos officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home. Mary VanHorssen was a longtime Griffith resident. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, a graduate of IUN school of Nursing, and retired from Hospice of the Calumet Area. Mary co-organized the Griffith War Memorial extension at Central Park, and volunteered with numerous other Griffith Organizations and committees.
