Robert Henry Maginot

Robert Henry Maginot, age 83, of Schererville passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013. Robert was born April 27, 1930 in Hammond, IN. He is the son of the late Henry and Irene (Gehring) Maginot. He is survived by his loving wife, Liliane (le Sourd) Maginot; daughters: Suzanne M. (Randy Hartsell) Maginot and Stephanie (Mel) Maginot-Thillens; grandchildren: Nathan, Maxwell, Samuel, and Teddy Thillens; and many cousins and loving friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 directly at St. Joseph Church, 5304 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN with Fr. Rick Orlinski officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday September 29, 2013 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN, and a half hour before mass at the church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Robert was a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and Education), Roosevelt University with a Master of Science, and Loyola University. He served in the Armed Forces from October 28, 1952 to July 27, 1954 during the Korean War. He got the occupational medal and the national defense service medal. Robert taught in the Lake Ridge School District for 47 years; retiring in 2008 at age 78. He was the past president of the Indiana Federation of Teachers and the Lake Ridge School District Federation of Teachers. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area or to Catholic Charities in his loving memory.
