Robert Willis Blom

Robert Willis Blom, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2014. He was married to his loving wife of 69 years, Alice Arends Blom who passed away in April, 2013. Born the second of seven children to Jacob and Elizabeth Flym Blom, he was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth, Donald, Vern, and Dennis. Bob is survived by his sister, Bea Breuker; and brother, Claude (Alice); his children: Patricia (Clifford Donald) Lontz, Donald (Jeneane), Ellen (late Robert) Gritters, Gail (Brian) Schultz; his grandchildren: Tina (Michael Barnhart) Lewandowski and her daughter, Kelli; Denise Lontz, Susan (Jason Sherwood) Lontz and their sons: Evan, Hunter and Soren, Joel Gritters; Matthew (Joanne Keizer) Gritters and their sons: Matthew Jr., William and Emmett, and Mark Gritters. Visitation will be at the Schroeder - Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at New Hope (formerly First Christian Reformed) Church, 3642 Lake St., Lansing, IL on Tuesday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Blom’s name to Lansing Christian School or Trinity Christian College. During WWII, Mr. Blom honorably served his country in the 103rd division in the European theater, earning the Bronze Star. In later years he and his family traveled every summer to a reunion with his Army buddies. After the war he learned the trade of lath and plaster from his uncle and would go on to plaster many homes and commercial buildings in the Calumet region. Serving his Lord was Bob's life. This was evidenced in his commitment to his family, to Christian education, to his church and in his work. He volunteered many hours to church and school boards.
