Salvador "Sal" Equihua


Salvador "Sal" Equihua, age 80, of DeMotte, formerly of Merrillville, passed away Saturday November 12, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Salvador was born on February 14, 1932 in Gary, IN to the late Florentino and Maria (Partida) Equihua. Sal was a 1951 graduate of Froebel High School. On September 10, 1955 he married Delores Chavez, who survives. Sal was a retired Gary Police Officer of 20 years and an auto inspector at the Budd Company. He proudly served in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Sal was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #61 and Sociedad Multualista Mexico. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, cooking, dancing, and his loving family. Salvador is survived by his wife, Delores, of 56 years; three children: Robert (Mindy) Equihua of Rensselaer, Michael (Toni) Equihua of Crown Point, and Lori (Mike) Guerrero of Demotte; five grandchildren: Michael, Danielle, Spencer, Nate, and Eric; and two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Reagan. Salvador is also survived by his sisters: Yolanda (Al) Jimenez and Ana Equihua of Gary, Monica (Geoff) Bonham of MI; and stepmother, Rosario Equihua; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. Preceded in death by his brother, Art; and son, Larry Equihua. Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte on Wednesday, November 14, 2011 from 2:00-8:00 PM. There will be a prayer service at 4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte, IN on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Monsignor Robert Sell officiating. Interment will follow at the Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN with military rites. Also see
