Sidney Scheeringa

Sidney Scheeringa, age 79 of Hobart, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012. He was born on August 2, 1933 to the late William and Gertrude Scheeringa. Mr. Scheeringa served his country Stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sidney owned and operated Sid's Produce for many years. He retired from the Carpenter's Millwright Union Local 1043 and Teamsters Local 142. Sidney was a member of the Hobart Eagles AERIE #2498 and the American Legion Post 54 of Hobart. He loved playing his harmonica. During retirement, he enjoyed providing landscaping services. Sidney is survived by three children: Dan (Sara) Scheeringa of WI, Alissa "Susie" Antonelli of Hobart, IN, and David (Sheryl) Scheeringa of Hobart, IN; four brothers: Dick (Joann) Scheeringa, Bill (Betty) Scheeringa, Don (Barb) Scheeringa, and Gerald Scheeringa; one sister, Loretta (Harry) Klar; five grandchildren: Rachael, Broc, Sallie, Hailey, Jakob; two great grandchildren: Devlin and Levi; also by his friends and neighbors: Karen and Emma Stavitzke, and Jim and Elaine Penrod. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra M. Scheeringa; infant daughter, Dana Scheeringa; three brothers: Bob, Tony, and Marvin; and one sister, Dorothy. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Frederick Hoover officiating.
