Susan L. Fitzgerald

Susan L. Fitzgerald, age 57, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2014, after a long and courageous six-year battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Sue was born on April 3, 1957. She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen, of 35 years; beloved daughter, Kelly (Brad) Wineinger of Lockport, IL; sister, Beverly (Henry) Neely; nieces: Allison (Jeff) Wieser and Tricia (Kevin) Giunta; four great nieces: Addison and Ashley Wieser, Chloe and Ruby Giunta; and great nephew, Jacob Wieser. She was preceded in death by her parents: Howard and Thelma (nee Wilke) Munster; and her mother-in-law, Jane Coleman. Sue graduated from T.F. South in 1975, and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Lansing. She retired from Commonwealth Edison after 30 years of service, where she met her husband Steve, and made many wonderful friendships. Sue enjoyed traveling with her family, always making sure they took a family vacation every summer. She was an avid Chicago White Sox and Bears fan, animal lover and enjoyed shopping with her daughter. Sue participated in the ALS Walk 4 Life, with her family and friends, to raise money and awareness for this disease, for which there is no cure. She participated as long as she could, until it became too difficult. "Sue's All Stars", organized by her good friends, Pat and Connie Morley, will continue to walk every year in her memory. Sue was a wonderful wife, mom, sister, aunt and friend, who loved her family very much. Her sweet smile and loving personality will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 2:00- 8:00 PM at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 18420 Burnham Ave, Lansing, IL with Pastor Barbara Page-Kell officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, or the Calumet Humane Society in Munster, IN.
