Vivian Margarite Bozonier Upshaw

Vivian Margarite Bozonier Upshaw, 89, was born on July 22, 1924. She was the youngest daughter of 14 children born to Dalton Joseph Bozonier and Elizabeth Vivian Dupre. She was raised and attended school in New Orleans, LA. She later migrated to Chicago where she met and married Thomas Sylvester Upshaw on November 29, 1947. Their union created four daughters: Sylvia Teresa, Carolyn Denise, Cynthia Faith, and Karen Marie. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Doris (Frank) Shaw, Flora Mae (Pat) Patterson, Warena (Henry) Haydel, Noel Walker, Eva Lee (Peter) Chapuis, and Tony (Helen) Bozonier; two children: Lawrence and Jean Monier from a previous marriage; and grandson, Moses Brian Upshaw Crosby. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister-niece, Shirley Cahn of Los Angeles, CA; eight daughters: Sylvia U. Kenner, MD (Robert Hamilton) of Indianapolis, IN, Carolyn Upshaw-Royal, JD (Weland) of East Lansing, MI, Cynthia Wilkinson, RN of East Chicago, IN, Karen Upshaw Crosby, JD (William) of Absecon, NJ, and Tobi Upshaw (Lee) Shelton of Louisville, KY, Aretta Nichols and Rita (Richard) Gillis of East Chicago, IN, and Willa (Robert) Fleets of Gary, IN; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends. The funeral will be held at Greater Destiny Bible Church located at 1920 E. Columbus Drive, East Chicago, IN 46312 on Saturday, October 5, 2013 with Pastor Kelly Williams officiating. The viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the funeral immediately following. Her body has been entrusted to Hinton & Williams Funeral Home, 4859 Alexander Avenue, East Chicago, IN 46312; Tracy Williams, Funeral Director.
