WILLIAM "BILL" BATALIS MERRILLVILLE, IN
William Batalis "Bill", age 85, of Merrillville, IN passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point. Bill is survived by his sisters: Freida Devyak and Dorothy (Don) Johnson; brother, George Batalis; nieces and nephews: Georgia Becker, Carol (Paul) Abbate, Mary (Jim) Luebcke, Barbara Nicholson, Peter Johnson, Robert (Lori) Devyak, Mary Nance, Diane (Tom) Lukasik, George (Sue) Devyak Jr., Donna (Alan) Rose and Lori Aho; numerous grand nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Marigo Batalis; and grand-niece, Ashley Harris. Bill was born in Gary, IN on August 17, 1927. He graduated from Gary Emerson High School in 1945 as Valedictorian and Purdue University
in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Bill worked at U.S. Steel as an electrical engineer until his retirement in 1983. After retirement, Bill continued working for a few years at U.S. Steel as a consultant. Bill loved sports, participating in bowling and golf. He was an avid Purdue Boilermaker and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a prolific reader and enjoyed reading about the new technologies. Bill was a member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He will be dearly missed by all those who loved him. The family would like to thank the St. Anthony Hospice for the wonderful care that Bill received. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN with Rev. William Conjelko officiating. Interment to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary.
