I always enjoyed time with Al, as did his sister-in-law, Rosalie, my wife. He would get us free tickets to a White sox game when he playing. Always great fun. So was hunting and fishing and playing golf with him.
Rosalie has joined him this year, at the age of 88. We were married for almost 62 years. May God bless both of them

I remember a plaque on a rock outside of a ball field in Whiting, Indiana, by Lake Michigan, marking a record homerun that Al had hit.
Had a brief meeting with him and his brothers that summer in the late 70's. They were nice men that I enjoyed being around. I grew up with his brother Marty's son Mark, whose middle name was from Al. Marty always called Mark, Allen. I hope the brothers are reunited in heaven.
God bless Pilarcik family.

Thanks for the memories...

My husband Scott Pilarcik was son to Al's brother Marty Pilarcik. He has many of his baseball cards and photos of him from his baseball years.

We happened upon the news of his passing while searching for another relative and was so saddened as we read.

Our condolences to your family. I remember when Marty called us to let us know that Bud had died and even though I had never met him, it was a very sad day for Marty and the family. I'm sure if Marty were here today, it would be yet another day of sadness for him. May God bless and comfort you during this time.

Our Best,
Lori and Scott Pilarcik

Coach,

So many things I remember from playing for you from 1983 - 1985. I was fortunate to have you name me a captain my senior year.

As I now am a coach, there are two sayings that I catch my self repeating without even thinking: "Get on your horse" and "Break up that rock pile".

Many lessons were learned on that baseball field that you over saw as a general. I wasn't the best player but you saw the best in me. Your encouragement drove me to compete harder and launched me into a successful baseball career through college.

May you be at peace for all eternity coach.

In Christ,

Troy J. Dan

Mrs. Pilarcik:
Al and I were in the Army together at Ft. Knox. I subsequently saw him in Boston where I was a physician at that time. He got me a ticket to watch Ted Williams play his last game.
He was a wonderful man and always a gentleman.

I used to do taxes with AARP and looked forward to seeing Al every year. He was an absolute delight. I enjoyed hearing of his life adventures, and dear stories of Al and his wife, Theresa. I know you don't know me, Theresa, but I know he loved you very much! His smile will be missed!

When I was 10 years old Al was my favorite Oriole. I remember one day when a few Orioles came to the Hamden Rec Park in Baltimore. I excitedly went out to right field where he was surrounded by fans. I asked Al if he would wave to me the next time I was able to cheer for him from the bleachers in right field at Memorial stadium. He smiled, "of course" was all he had to say.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of A.J Pilarcik.

I didn’t know Mr. Pilarcik that is until I read the article “Region Loses A Baseball Legend” by Al. Hamnik in September 25, 2010 Times paper.

The picture of a young baseball player in his prime brought back memories of the past and I was most intrigued in the article.

I just sit and wonder what a thrill it would have been to be able to sit in the “shoot the breeze” get-together that Mr. Pilarcik was asked to attend.

The stories of our elders along with memories are the unwritten testimonies of one’s life story and needless to say Mr. Hamnik and Mr. Tom Hoffman made it possible for me to look into one tiny aspect of Mr. Al Pilarcik’s contribution to one life story.

I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing, my thoughts and prayers are with his family. I remember him being a student at VALPO U, he would come up to my room and we would study and discuss other world problems. George Kauchak, Goshen,IN. formerly of Whiting,IN.

I remember the day the fungo was wrapped around my ankles at practice when I smarted off. The love he shared for the game of baseball that he helped instill in me is still there. Thanks Coach. You helped me stay involved in the game to this very day...albeit as an umpire.

Sorry to hear of his passing. I was just listing his 1957 Baltimore Oriole picture on eBay today, from a collection that I have saved since my early youth days in a Baltimore suburb. I Googled his name for references to help in the posting of the sale and I saw where he had just passed away three days ago. So what a strange twist of fate that this should happen now. Well, he's back on the playing field, in the ' Field of Dreams '.

Wasmy coach and / or teacher from 71-75 at LCHS. Still remember him carrying his old taped fungo bat and loving it when he would hit fly balls over his fielders heads while yelling "get on your horse." A good, fair man who I always respected.
