EUGENE A. LERCH WANATAH, IN
Eugene A. Lerch, age 85, of Wanatah passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 at Settlers House, LaPorte. He was born on October 10, 1926 in Hessville, IN to Clinton E. and Esther (Brick) Lerch. Eugene was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and worked as an assembler at Allis Chalmers for 30 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the American Legion Post 403 of Wanatah, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, and Fleet Reserves. Eugene is survived by three children: Thomas (Rayetta) Lerch of Hanna, Susan (Mark Hoover) Justice of Kouts, and Connie (Dave Shirley) Mitzner of Wanatah; five grandchildren: Michele, Clinton, Amber, Kim, and Bethany; great grandson, Zachary; sisters-in-law: Thelma (Gordon) Bos Wiesjahn and Mary Mockler; brother- in-law, Edward Falls; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn, in 1986; second wife, Nellie, in 1998; four sisters: Dorothy Pier, Agnes Cota, Lula Mae Jahnz, and Ida Allen; and two brothers: Robert and Charles Lerch. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 108 N. Ohio Street, Wanatah with Fr. Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wanatah. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St, Wanatah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. wanatahfuneralchapel.com
