Helen Chovanec Obituary

Helen Chovanec Merrillville/Hammond, IN Helen Chovanec, age 90, of Merrillville, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Broadway Methodist Southlake Hospital in Merrillville, IN. She was born in Hammond, IN on March 23, 1914 to the late Vincent and (nee Kunegunda) Kozlowski. Married Joseph A. Chovanec in 1935 in Hammond, he preceded her in death in 1993. Survived by son; Robert (Millie) Chovanec of Palm Springs, CA; daughters: Theresa (James) Cavallo of Chesterton, IN, Carol (husband Tom preceded) Biel of Chesterton, IN and Mary Jo (Larry) Cuculic of Lafayette, IN; seven grandchildren: Patrick Chovanec, Tom (Claudia), Amy Biel and Jill (Luke) Sandri, Larry Cuculic, Brad and Joel Cavallo; four great-grandchildren Tommy, Melissa, Christopher and Nicholas Biel. Also preceded in death by brother, Casimir Kozlowski and sister, Adeline Wegrzyn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 20, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 204 Ohio Street, Wanatah, IN with Father Jerry Sweitzer officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Visitation Sunday, September 19, 2004 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN. Helen was a homemaker; and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah, IN; and a former member of St. Casimir Parish in Hammond. She was a former beautician in her early married life. She was a Hammond resident most of her life and moved to Chesterton to live with her daughter, She then returned to the Merrillvill/Crown Point area to an assisted living environment. Family suggests memorials to Chesterton Montessori School, 270 E. Burdick Road, Chesterton, IN.
