My deepest condolences to the family of Dick Anderson. I had the honor and the pleasure to know Mr. Anderson and I was very sorry to hear about his passing away.

Our paths crossed many times at US Steel and the Lockout of 1986 can account for one that I especially remember.

I was on #2 Battery when a coke car broke an axle. I was always complaining and really at my lowest manning the battery. I didn’t like being there. I just hated it.
Dick had to get under the car to make the repairs. When done he came into the lunchroom all dirty and full of grease. He wasn’t upset. He wasn’t complaining. He hadn’t changed his demeanor and when I asked him how it was going he gave me a side smirk on his face and rolled his eyes up ward and shrugged his shoulders.

It left such an impression on me that I took stock of my attitude and decided to turn a negative into a positive. It made being there more bearable.

Later on in years I found myself in need of a replacement for a model train drive wheel. Someone suggested that I see Dick Anderson.

Within 2 days Dick calls for me to “COME ON DOWN.”
To my amazement he had made an exact replica of the steel part.

Knowing Dick added a plus in my arsenal of life’s teachings.

Dick Anderson was one well “Educated In Life” person that I will remember.
