RUTH IRENE DWYER (NEE DOMMER) Ruth Irene "Robinson" Dwyer, age 88, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008 at her son (Kevin Robinson's) home in Hobart, IN after a courageous battle with cancer. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law Kathy (Rospond) Robinson. Ruth was born February 23, 1920 to Benjamin and Lillian (Poggemeyer) Dommer in Detroit, MI. She is survived by daughters: Diane (Keith) Fredericks of Portage, IN and Janneane (Craig) Schlegel of Larkspur, CO; son, Kevin (Kathy) Robinson of Hobart, IN; five grandchildren: Diana, Chad, Michele, Kimberly and Korrine; great-grandchildren: Mitchell, Brandon, Henry and Hayden; two brothers: Raymond (Jeanine) Dommer of Hobart, IN and Herbert (late Alice) Dommer of Portage, IN; three sisters: Grace (late Jack) Vensel of Portage, IN, Shirley Dommer of Hobart, IN and Esther (late Ronnie) Pendergrast of Hobart, IN; wonderful friend and great baker, Eleanor Halapy of Portage, IN. Preceded in death by her parents: Ben and Lillian Dommer; grandson, Michael Schlegel; first husband, Maurice Robinson; and second husband Harold Dwyer. Mom was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hobart IN. Mom took pride in her volunteering at Chellburg Farms for over 10 years, and her active participation in the Delta Chi Sigma Sorority for many years. Mom graduated from Hobart High School in 1938 and enjoyed attending the reunions. She worked for Comay and Macy's Jewelers in Gary in the 1960's and for City Hall Engineer's Office in Hobart prior to her retirement. Mother was a wonderful mom making sure her children and home were always clean! Mother was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters and Cub Scout Den Mother for her son. Our mother was a perfect role model, exuding dignity and class wherever she went. Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice of Valparaiso (loving and caring people) or the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart, IN. A Memorial Service will be held in Ruth's honor on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN with Rev. Gary S. Nagy Officiating.
