The Guest Book is expired.
Andrew Milan Adaska, age 88, of Munster, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 3, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Bill) Ranney, of Potomac, MD; two grandsons: Nathan, of Arlington, VA and Marcus of Potomac, MD; many nieces and nephews including Martha Lynn Boisson of Bloomington, IN, Jack (Sherri) Eggert of Grant Park, IL, and Sandy (Ed) Brown of Valparaiso, IN. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Wassermann Adaska; parents: Andrew and Suzanne Adaska; and sisters: Martha Beisler and Suzanne Burches. Andy was born in Trencin Czechoslovakia and arrived at Ellis Island with his mother and sisters when he was nine months old. He graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1941 and worked as a machinist before joining the service in 1943. Andy was a mechanic in the Army and arrived at Omaha Beach just weeks after D-Day. He attended Ball State University and graduated in 1950. He was a vocational education teacher and administrator at Hammond Tech from 1951 until his retirement in 1985. Andy was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather. His kindness carried over to all of his family and friends. He loved to play golf and was the Hammond Tech golf coach for a number of years. Andy delighted in sharing this pastime with his son-in-law and grandsons. He loved to travel and the family enjoyed many adventures in their travel trailer, including a cross-country trip in 1969. Most summers included meeting family and friends at their favorite Minnesota fishing resort for countless good times over the course of 40 years. Weekend campouts with extended family were great and raucous fun. After retirement Andy and Dorothy traveled to Maryland several times a year. Despite the distance, Andy and Dorothy were a very important part of their grandsons' lives. He couldn't have been more proud of the boys and felt so fortunate to be able to attend both of their college graduations. Andy was such a wonderful presence in so many lives. He will be very deeply missed. The family will receive friends at the Centennial Park Clubhouse, 1005 S. Centennial Drive (off Calumet Ave.) in Munster on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union.
