Arnold Corpus Obituary

ARNOLD CORPUS EAST CHICAGO, IN
Late Sunday afternoon, Arnold Corpus was welcomed home by his dad, Abe Corpus; and brothers: Allen and Abe, Jr. Arnold was born in St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago on January 7, 1959 and in the same hospital, passed away February 26, 2011. Arnold will be terribly missed by his mom, Rosemary Corpus and brother, Alex, with whom he made his home in East Chicago. His sisters: Laura (Eddie Lopez) of Hammond and Myra (Brian Velazquez) of East Chicago; brothers: Armando of Oakland, CA and Albert of Torrington, CT have lost a brother and a best friend. His niece and nephew: Sara and Zachary Corpus Igartua will miss his Sox over Cubs banter, but more so, the assurance of his constant help and protection. Arnold will be remembered by everyone who knew him, especially his lifelong neighbor and childhood friend, Claudio Gonzalez and Arnold's "adopted daughter" Angie "Shorty" Jaramillo for his caring and desire to help anyone in need. Arnold was preceded in death by his dad; brothers: Allen and Abe, Jr.; and his dear friends: Leona Nadolski, Rich Galambos, and Antonio Garza. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Patrick Church, 138th and Grand Blvd., East Chicago. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 3:00- 8:00 p.m. (prayer service at 7:00 p.m.) at the Oleska- Pastrick Funeral Home, 3934 Elm Street (one block north of Columbus Dr. US12), East Chicago. Friends may also visit on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Arnold graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1978 where he played on the football and wrestling teams. Arnold worked at U.S. Gypsum for three years and at Inland Steel for over 23 years. During the past few years, Arnold volunteered at St. Patrick's Church and ultimately became a staff member. He was very committed to St. Patrick's church, its members and endeavors, including the children's music school. Arnold loved music, but especially Alice Cooper; and, of course, "Mantis", the band in which he played guitar. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dear Arnold,
Miss you all the time dude. Grateful for all we shared, especially your quiet but strong support through all the phases of life we went through together. No one really made laugh like you could. I wish there'd been more time for you and for us, but I was really lucky to have what there was. Wherever you are I hope you're enjoying great rest, and some really really excellent tunes.
Love Forever,
Armando

Not a day goes by that I am not struck by how important my brother was to me. We were pretty different people, but we had so much fun when we were together. I will always remember him as funny, no-nonsense and almost unfailingly sincere; someone who every day, did his best for his friends and family. I was blessed to have him as my brother I hope he knows how deeply he is missed.

I'd like to express my sincere condolences to his family. I played bass in a band with Arnold back in the 80s. His headbanging and enthusiasm injected a lot of fun into the group. I'll miss him.

I read the poem The Broken Chain, and thought it captured the feelings of the Corpus family. I'm re-wording it to reflect the loss of Arnold.

"They little knew that morning that God was going to call Arnold's name. In life they loved him dearly, in death they do the same.
It broke their hearts to lose Arnold, he did not go alone, for part of them went with him, the day God called him home. Arnold left them peaceful memories, his love is still their guide; and though they cannot see him, he is always at their side.
Their family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God call us one by one, the Corpus Chain will link again."

I lost my dear sister a few months before Arnold, and life has not been the same. Losing someone you love, especially someone who has shared a great part of your life, is losing a big part of who we are. Knowing that you'll never see them or hear them again in this life is very difficult. We have to remember that all of our lives will someday pass on, and that nothing in this life is forever, except love. I know Arnold was loved by his family, and someday you will all be together again. That will truly be heaven. Until then, , make these moments we have count, show love for those you care about in words and actions, treasure your memories, and keep all your loved ones close in your hearts.

Dear Arnold,
Your mother and all your family and friends remember you and all the joys and love you shared. It was too a short time we had you here. Our loss is a terrible one to overcome. But we take comfort in our memories and our confidence that the kindness, the great humor, and the strength you blessed us with, will one day bring us all through. You rest well and know you are loved very very much.

From the entire Martinez family we give you our deepest sympathy and pray that the Lord give you peace as well as comfort. I am one of the niece's and knew Arnold as a kind and gentle man; he was such a good friend and a great soul. I had the opportunity to see Arnold and express to him how much I appreciated his skills in fixing my Tia Yolanda's bathroom. Hanging out with him laughing and reminiscing on old times brought such joy that day. It saddens the heart to know he will no longer be upon us, but to have comfort in knowing we will all reunite again in harmony.
God bless,
Nora

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I hope and pray that even in the midst of your sorrow, you must be feeling very proud. From what I know of Arnold, he was someone who could always find the best in others and who could always take the time to reach out and help without a thought of praise...who lived with an inspiring Christian faith and left the world a better place simply by being a part of it.
With Deepest Sympathy

It’s not often you meet someone who was so dedicated to family, friends, and church, fortunately I had the privilege of meeting sure a person in Arnold. During my time at St.Pats I as well as any member of our church knew they could count on him for anything from putting up booths in the scorching hot sun for our fest to walking and elderly person to church. Arnold thanks for all the help, thanks for your jokes, your laughter, and most of all thanks for your friendship. I will see you again when I get to heaven I know you will be there setting up for my arrival.
