Betty Chumbler went to be with the Lord at 5:38 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Grace Village in Winona Lake, Indiana at the age of 87. She was a former longtime resident of Valparaiso, Indiana. Betty was born on December 18, 1925 in South Wales to Thomas Childs and Catherine (Thomas) Childs. On February 14, 1945 in South Wales, she was married to Willard Chumbler, who survives in Winona Lake, Indiana. Betty was born and educated in South Wales. After she was married, she returned with her husband to Northwest Indiana in 1946. She spent her married life in Gary, Merrillville, and Valparaiso. She worked for Sears in the Clerical Department for 25 years retiring in 1985 from the Merrillville location. Betty had been a member of the Central Baptist Church in Hobart, Indiana since 1947, where she was involved in the nursery, Sunday School, and in the church office. She had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past two months. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Willard Chumbler of Winona Lake; son, David Chumbler of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Rosemary Courtney of Warsaw, Indiana; three grandchildren: John Thomas Chumbler of Lakeland Florida, Chris Courtney of South Bend, Indiana, and Matt Courtney of Costa Mesa, California; one great grandson, Damon Chumbler; and her sister, Eileen Edwards of South Wales. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother. Private family visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. CST at Central Baptist Church, 704 W. 700 N., Hobart, Indiana, officiated by Pastor David Webb. There will also be visitation an hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. CST at the church. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana. Memorial donations in Betty's name may be directed to the Central Baptist Church, 704 W. 700 N., Hobart, Indiana 46342 and would be appreciated by her family.
