FLOSSIE NORENE HILLEGONDS COOPER SOUTH HOLLAND, IL Flossie Norene Hillegonds Cooper (nee Crawford), age 89, of South Holland, IL, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, Mother's Day. She is survived by her loving children: Steve (Ruth) Hillegonds, Diane (George) Kreykes, Jim Hillegonds, and John (Kathy) Hillegonds; blessed with eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Hillegonds and later, Samuel Cooper. Parents, Anna (Nichols) and James Albert Crawford of Dyersburg, TN; sisters: Viola, Berta, Beatrice and Ruby; brothers: Charles, Cecil, Elmer, Luther, Gus and Marshal. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Cal Aardsma officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery - Evergreen Park, IL. Flossie Norene Crawford was born on September 26, 1922 and was raised in Dyersburg, TN. She grew up picking cotton on the farm. At the age of 24 she moved to Chicago. Flossie worked at Peoples Store in Roseland, IL as a sales clerk. At lunchtime in the cafeteria she met Harry Hillegonds who was delivering fresh produce from Hillegonds Produce in Roseland, IL. Flossie married Harry Hillegonds on June 17, 1950. They were blessed with four children. With her strong faith in God she became a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. Flossie was a previous member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Roseland. She worked as a Home Care Taker for over 50 years taking care of the elderly. She loved canning all kinds of fruits and vegetables from Hillegonds Produce. Flossie loved the Lord with all her heart and is now with her Savior. As a family we rejoice knowing she is with her Heavenly Father. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lansing Christian School, Crown Point Christian School and Southwest Christian School would be appreciated.
