George W. Barney, Jr. Highland George W. Barney, Jr., age 80 of Highland, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Mari (nee Lochivski); parents, George W. and Anna Barney, Sr.; and three brothers: Edward, Raymond and Daniel Barney. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 12:00 noon from Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, 545 E. 77th Ave., Schererville with Rev. Father Lev Holowaty officiating. Burial Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation will be Wednesday morning at the Church from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church. LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barney was a lifetime resident of this area, a retired inspector from LTV Steel where he worked for 20 years, a retired patrolman from the East Chicago Police Dept. where he worked for 20 years, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees during WWII and a member of Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church of Schererville, B.P.O.E. #981 and American Legion Allied Post #369 of East Chicago who sill conduct military services at the cemetery.
