HARVEY RUSSEL NOLAND VALPARAISO, IN Harvey Russel Noland, 86, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013. He was born May 23, 1926 in Gary, the son of Lonnie O. and Delena (LeFler) Noland. Harvey was a U.S. Navy veteran, a high school algebra and geometry teacher, and basketball and baseball coach. He taught nine years at Boone Grove High School, 12 years at Portage High School, and 14 years at Chesterton High School. Harvey was a member of the Moose Lodge 1357 in Valparaiso and the Elks Lodge 1152 in Hobart. He played minor league baseball. On August 30, 1951 in Farmington, IL, Harvey married Patricia Ann Westerby who preceded him in death in 1977. Surviving are his children: Edward (Carol) Noland, Jerry (Melinda) Noland, and Janet (Bill) Cantrell all of Valparaiso, Brenda (Keith) Heck of Chesterton and Carol (Clay) Frey of Merrillville; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. His brother, Howard Noland of California, and sister, Mary Morris of Minneapolis, MN, also survive. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Noland; and sister, Maxine Akers. There will be cremation with private family services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Red Cross. Bartholomew Funeral Home in charges of services.
