Deacon John D. Roscoe, Sr., age 82, of Indianapolis, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in Indianapolis. He was born June 18, 1930 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Benjamin and Catherine (Gorecki) Roscoe. John earned his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from John Hopkins University and was a Mechanical Engineer with Bethlehem Steel upon retirement. John founded Roscoe Technical Services, a specialized engineering consulting firm. John was actively involved with scouting for more than 30 years. He was a member and Deacon at St. Paul Catholic Church in Valparaiso for many years, having also led the Deaconate training program for the Diocese of Gary. On February 5, 1950 in Baltimore, John married Jane Lee Cook, who preceded him in death May 18, 2011. Surviving are his children: JoAnn (Don) McCaffrey of Ozark, AL, Karen Maynard of Indianapolis, Dr. John D. Roscoe, Jr. of Valparaiso, Gayla Steinberg of Indianapolis, and Jeffrey (Jaime) Roscoe of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two brothers: Benjamin (Jerry) Roscoe of New Mexico and Geno (Peggy) Roscoe of Texas. In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Queen of Apostles Chapel at St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso and Monday, February 4, 2013 from 9:00-10:00 AM in the Church prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM with the Principle Celebrant Bishop Dale J. Melczek officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Valparaiso. Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso in charge of arrangements.
