LESLIE BARGFELDT, JR. VALPARAISO, IN Leslie Bargfeldt, Jr. 85 of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the VNA Hospice Center. He was born May 21, 1927 in Gary, the son of Leslie and Lucille (Aldridge) Bargfeldt, Sr. Les was a WWII Navy Veteran and was a GTE repairman. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Valparaiso and the American Legion Post #430 in Merrillville. Les was a volunteer at the Independence Hill Fire Department and was a founding member of the South Haven Fire Department. Surviving is his daughter, Alicia (German) Ortiz of Portage; his stepson, Steve (Katie) Witherspoon of Valparaiso; a son-in-law, Dave Backe; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. His wife, Theresa Hudson Bargfeldt; a daughter, Janelle Backe; his parents; a brother; and two sisters preceded him in death. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1511 LaPorte Avenue, Valparaiso, Rev. Kevin McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 10:30 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cafe Manna or the VNA.
