Marcia Popa, age 81, of Hammond passed away Monday, November 19, 2012. She as born in Hegewisch on August 9, 1931 to Edward and Helen Zabroski and graduated from Thornton Fractional High School in Calumet City, Class of 1947. Marcia was married to the late Charles Grenert, and then to the late Eugene "Geno" Popa. She is survived by her son, Gene Popa and daughter-in-law, Dahlia Hanin, both of Evergreen Park, IL. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marcia had been an employee of the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, a proofreader for editor Roy E. Porter, a features writer for the Times, an administrator for Davis Temporaries, and administrative professional with Operation Able. With her husband Geno, she was co-owner and operator of Eugene's Restaurant in Lynwood and the Nook in Lansing. She was also a published short story author. A visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the same location on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Jim Renwick officiating. Burial will be at st. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. In lieu of flowers, the family hopes that you will consider making a contribution to the in her loving memory, and to give thanks for the loved ones in your life. Marcia will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
