Marvin Eugene Guernsey, age 79, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013. He was born on November 23, 1933 in Pinhook, IN to Charles Emerson and Louisa Mabel Dunham Guernsey. Marvin married Ethel Gayle Hittle on December 28, 1965 in the LDS Logan, Utah Temple. He is survived by two daughters: Ramona (Terry) Swapp of UT and Jennifer (Christopher) Archer of Portage; son, Robert (Kathleen) Guernsey of UT; 11 grandchildren: Brooke, Makenna, Renee and Troy Swapp, Conner, Jadyn and Logan Archer, Kesiah (Blake) Reyns, Jordan, Mailee and Kennedy Guernsey. Preceded in death by wife, Ethel; parents; one brother, Charles Emerson Guernsey, Jr. Marvin served faithfully in many ways in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Valparaiso Ward. He taught Chemistry at Portage High School for 39 years. Marvin enjoyed teaching and getting to know his students. He enjoyed painting, cake decorating and learning about his family history. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially teasing and playing with his grandchildren. Marvin is loved by many and will be greatly missed. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 2700 Willowcreek Rd., Portage on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 503 Burlington Beach Road, Valparaiso.
